To clarify, I’m wondering if there’s a game that doesn’t have skill trees, or crafting mechanics, or a zillion characters, or lots of other extraneous stuff. Just the core heroes, leveling up and buying/finding gear.

I’d love to play a simple RPG. Like Dragon Quest 3, or Gailardia or Tenmillion. I don’t want a massive crafting system or a catch-em-all whatever. Just 3-5 heroes, maybe some jobs, and a bunch of quests. What’s the best simple Kemco game for something like that?

Is the elf best as a spell-caster, maximizing Magic and Spirit, or as a bow attacker, maximizing Attack? I was excited to get a second bow user, as it’s my favorite weapon, but is the elf actually better suited as a caster?
