OK, found them.
1 dark crystal found in Raness Tower
1 dark crystal found in energi pandora
1 dark crystal Yournil cave 1st floor lower right
These are the 3 pre-post game; the 3 in the post game are easy to find: all 3 are in chests in Speranza's lab (2 on first floor, 1 about 3 floors down).
I have to complain a bit about the game design here. Almost all treasure chests have been of little use, and there is no particular way to know that a dark crystal is required. I guess when you see that it doesn't appear to be of any use, you can guess it must be special. But would you guess how many you need? After all, you find other "special" items in chests that turn out to be of no consequence. The setup more or less requires you to search for every treasure, and of course you will not know that you haven't found the right ones until much later. Then you will have to return to dungeons searching for chests, and you may not even know where to look. Good thing we have this website!

If you think that's bad, the only way to unlock the bonus stuff in Symphony of the Origin is to go back after you reach a certain point, and talk to a specific someone (which, the game tells you nothing about). And then after you defeat all the "crystal" monsters and have their crystals or gems (whatever they're called lol), you can go turn them into a random NPC to get your reward - but only if you've completed a side quest with that random NPC already (which side quest is entirely up to you to discover and complete - NO in-game hints.)

In my opinion, though, it makes it that much sweeter when you do just "stumble across" some hidden part of the game, and then have to figure out how to solve it. Bonus material that you actually have to work for = pure AWESOMENESS! :woohoo:

Another example: the "Sorcerer" in Destiny Fantasia, who if you don't have the right item, says, "....."
It's one of those, if you happen to be paying attention, you might figure out there's something there, but you obviously don't have the right item in your inventory yet. So then, when you do get it and go back, you're like "Oh sweet I solved it!"

Makes it much better than when all the subquest characters have a funny looking cloud over their head, clearly indicating that they have a subquest for you to take on... It makes it easier, sure, but it also takes something away from it... Some mystery perhaps?

Yes, it is fun when you find some crazy thing. BUT...here are some of the gems I don't appreciate. In Alphadia Genesis, certainly an experienced player will investigate locations that can't be reached except by some locomotion late in the game (flying, boating, etc.). Now let's say you land on the bare island I call Dragon Island. You bump into a monster, say an unseen before dragon, so you fight. You do that a few times to see what else is there, and maybe you get a mini or giga dragon. You spend some more time, but nothing new shows up, so you leave. BUT...maybe there is another monster there, a rare 1 in 200...you don't know, you can't find out, there isn't any monster guide to show you where there is a "hole" in the list....so you miss out for no good reason.

Or...there are 200 NPC. 198 of them have nothing of importance. The other two, however....After you've talked to the first 100 or so and gotten nothing for it, maybe you should not waste time. Or trying to find "secret" passages in dungeons when the markings are so faint they can't be seen...do you bump along every wall?

All of these are examples of what I think are poor design choices and not conducive to entertaining play. It is possible to build in "secrets" that in fact can be discovered without trying every possible combination, etc.

Good points, especially about the hard to find secret passages. (Those annoy me to no end.)

I just think there should be a better balance. The new games where you know the NPC has a quest, or the secret passages are no secret at all, are less rewarding in my opinion.

However, even in Alphadia, one legendary weapon is in a place where you never go there for the story, so you either search the entire world by airship, or assume there's a glitch (because you don't know that the location even exists), so somewhere between the two extremes would be more to my liking.

Secret passages: I read somewhere, maybe on this site, about using the zoom controls to shrink the screen to see if there are any corridors "off screen" as a tipoff that there might be a secret passage. I started using the "pinch" on my tablet and IT WORKS! It really does help to shrink the screen to fit more on and sometimes see that hidden area. I found a couple of places like that in Alphadia Genesis.

The 6 Dark Crystals when used on 6 blank signposts, give 6 weapons, 1 for each character.

Prerequisites:
1. Must complete Normal Ending to open Village of Nall and Secret Arena
2. Must defeat ALL Secret Arena bosses enough times to collect ALL weapons and armors.

The receptionist will then ask you to find the 6 blank signposts and use the Dark Crsytals on them.

Below are the images of the locations of the signposts and the details of the weapons.

Thanks for those screenshots, Islandi! I only found 5 dark crystals and I have to find that last dark crystal to get Grande's most powerful weapon! I guess I have to look very carefully for me to find that last dark crystal!  :-? I even found this red monster on the island where the hidden village of Nall is! 8-O
Being different and a loner is not a bad choice...
