Because sometimes you just gotta be OP:

If you're playing Premium, spend the 300 points total to unlock all 3 cauldrons. Then take a decent weapon for Rick, and do 3 full upgrades. (I only did two, cause I'd already wasted the first one on Yamato.)

Rick is a total tank; most enemies only do 1 damage even on hard mode. So with a weapon that has an extra +50-60 ATK from the cauldron, you can just about Auto every battle and not even care if the other 2 members die, because Rick will always win!

P.S. You can also add more slots to his weapon so he can equip 4 crystals if you want to.

EDIT: I forgot to add, buy 1 storehouse key so you can enter the storehouse in the first town. That'll get you the Well-Maintained Fur that makes Rick so indestructible!

Update:

So last night I finally finished the game. I stuck to my strategy of always upgrading Rick's weapon first, and I gave him the best physical attack skills I had available (which was usually some version of Ka-Boom and Sink Punch.)

In retrospect, I have to say that I do not recommend this approach. It made Rick too over-powered - to the point that every Boss battle (until the very last one) was extremely disappointing.

Also, because Rick had such a high attack that I knew he could handle just about any enemy, I never bothered to mess around with the different crystals (because, well, I didn't really need to.)

So, it was kind of cool to have Rick start out really OP - but ultimately, I think it kinda ruined the game for me. :(

Not only Rick, actually everyone can, when equipped with these 3. crystals:

1. Lv 1 Elemental Bkn Crl (Normal attack damage x5)

2. Lv 1 Elemental Bkn Crl (Normal attack hits all)

3. Lv 4 Shock Attack Crl (At the start of battle, act immediately)

I was playing around equipping crystals in 2-slotted weapons and found that we can equip crystals of the same element. The above combination is possible. Everyone can be OP with these 3 crystals and enhanced weapons (cauldron + transmigrate).

I agree. When I first fought the final boss, I was underpowered and didn't have the noble weapons. It was a tough but exciting battle. I then leveled up a bit, fought again, again a tough but slightly easier battle. Enjoyable. Later, when recovering from an illness, I had time and I maxed out characters, pushed the noble weapons to great heights, got smarter about the crystals, and laid waste to the boss. He only got 3 turns (actually, after that I got some crystals from the Tower of Crystals and sliced him down to where he only got 2 turns). But those overpowered battles were just a waste of time and were no fun. A self-imposed handicap works better to try to make battles touch and go, but winnable, not a walkover. Moral of the story: don't get sick and have too much time on your hands:)
