Fighting The King of Emptiness

I hope you find your own strategy, but if you want to try mine, here it is. My characters were around 4000 HP for this battle, with the King on "Normal" setting, but were at about 3200 in a prior but bloody triumph. Later, after I pushed my stats up and maxed out "power" for all but my healer, I went back and crushed (well, whittled away) the King on "Strong" setting. After that, I returned and took him on at his "Strongest." I was 4700-5700 hp, same strategy, and had to be patient as The King now frequently took 2 or even 3 consecutive turns, and used his biggest skills more often (or it least it seemed that way). My strategy was unchanged, and we had only one tense moment, and from there on we kept the pressure on the monster and finally killed him.

The King hits hard, and has 300,000 hit points (on Normal) but he doesn't heal himself, so you have to be patient and just chip him down little by little. He will poison you, but if you follow my strategy, you probably don't need to worry about that. He also sets your MP to zero, but even that power isn't as awful as it sounds.

First, you need to set 3 characters as defensive/healer specialists and put them in the back row. Pure MUST be one of these, and I used Fruitie and Spirit as the other two. Spirit, if you have mastered Lukifail, has the passive "Iron Tight Defense" ability which reduces damage while defending. I think it helps to have these two defenders be "faster" (have greater speed) than the two attackers in the front row. The defensive trio will NEVER attack, but restrict themselves to healing and using items. In fact, Pure, if you use the Dominance Heart, will cast Healing Stream EVERY turn possible.

On turn one, you MUST have EVERYBODY defend. In fact, as often as you can your two defensive specialists (not Pure) should DEFEND to minimize damage. Yes, they will be pinatas, but they will survive anything the King can throw at them as long as they Defend (and are in the back row).
One advantage is that you don't care if their MP goes to zero, because they will never use it anyway.

Your two hitters use their best attacks. Don't bother with Armor Breaker or other status ailments, etc., as they don't work
against the King. I put Soul of the Brave (increase criticals) on Lidim and used Cross Edge to minimize his mp consumption.
Crag simply pounds with Nova Crusher (and for me had mastered the passive ability Rage which can increase his attack).
The Kaiser Fist accessory (rewarded by Aurora in her demonic apparition), which turns a normal attack into 4 hits, and uses
no MP, might be an alternative for either of them, but I didn't test it.

With this approach, even poison isn't a big deal, because you will be casting Heal Stream almost every turn. If you like,
you can use an item to cure, but this means that somebody isn't defending, so on that turn your character should have
plenty of hit points in case the King uses one of his monster powers.

Be patient, don't get greedy, and eventually you will be victorious.

Well, first time in ages I took notes as I played. As I played, the game from 3 years ago came back. I hate to admit what memory was the strongest and most accurate: as I was moving along in a dungeon, i remembered exactly where a restore point was! :sick:

I just felt I had to use my notes, even though nobody should go back to play this thing from January 2013 except if they like arenas and a couple of tough bosses. BTW, you have to do a long chain of events to unlock "The King of Emptiness."
