Simple, Easy but OK

Eve of the Genesis is a well executed straight forward turned-based RPG. Its strengths are its minimal learning curve, opportunity for extensive customization of equipment and skills, and its tightly controlled completely linear progression which protects the player from missables and getting lost. Its weaknesses are its lack of character development and lack luster story. The game is in all these respects similar to Symphony of Eternity.

The good technical points include: most items are easy to find, although there are a few that are well hidden; there are a few locations designed for easy level grinding, if that is your preference; fairly early in the game there is monster item drop that allows you to escape from random battles; you can save anywhere except in battles; there are multiple save slots.

The only serious design weakness is the inability to ‘teleport’ out of most dungeons, and the scarce resources needed to improve skills.  This scarcity means that a misguided choice made with minimal information is difficult to overcome.  However, the basic game is easy enough that you probably will not suffer from a mistake.  Resources become plentiful in the post game bonus time.  Some of the item drops are very rare, and one problem is that without browsing the forums, you might very well not realize that good items, like the “escape shoes,” can be gotten from a particular monster.

I feel compelled to mention the lame “game over” conclusion.  After what can be a long and tough battle against the final bosses in the post game bonus (the battle can be easy if you level up and know what skills to use), your victory awards you a single pop up message.  You don’t get a cut scene, nor animated credit rolls, or anything to celebrate your success.

The graphics are adequate, but no more that that, and the sound is repetitive.

The interface is touch screen menu based, and not the ‘touch and go’ design of Symphony of Eternity.

If you like controlled, easy to learn and play turn-based role playing games, then you should enjoy Eve of the Genesis.  The basic game will go by quickly, perhaps too quickly,  and although some grinding is necessary for the bonus post game bosses, you shouldn’t find success difficult to achieve.

Not really.  All of them have been on the "Blog" for months/years.  MSG finally decided to eliminate the blog (nobody ever reads it, and spammers find it an easy spot for entry).  Commander told me if I wanted to keep the reviews, just move them to the appropriate forums, so that is what you see.
