Machine Knight was released in 2012 by Kemco and Hit-Point. Though It does look like it has aged, this is still by far the most interesting, very challenging and the most satisfying game I have played by Kemco, The game holds its Merits, And has Easily Left Some newer Kemco games to the dust. If You are an RPG Fan, with a Hardcore Bone in your body, this game is well worth every dime of your wallet and time.
Now that the a bit of the overview is out of the way, lets dive into the games features.
The Plot:
The is actually satisfying, having some plot twists here and there but nothing out of the extraordinary type that might lead you hanging for a while. The game almost most of the times wont give you every piece of story blatantly but creates a build of exciting tension in itself, so it does make you come back for more.
The game though does not have any complex story, with convoluted amalgam of many things thrown at you everytime . Its very simple and thats quite great actually because they fleshed out this Simple story to not have any plotholes, so by the end of the game you wont be left with any second thoughts. And I Will Take A Simple Fleshed Out Story any day than a Amalgam of Unused Concepts.
There is one thing to note that the story can take a bit of an unexpected turn, due the choices you have made in the game, which also increases its replayability value to some extent.
I wont give the story away, which I tend do with most of the times with my Reviews, so you should play the game, and see for yourself.
Plot Score: 7/10
Characters:
This game has very likable characters. Infact, all characters are actually likable, and each and every character has emotion, and soul to them. The Characters are very immersive, with witty dialogues and some of the times low caliber, giving more variety to there character then most of there games. More than there dialogues, there conversations between other characters and themselves is quite well thought, with a few well placed innuendos here and there, overall satisfying characters.
There are only three main characters in the game, Namely, Frain, Aulin and Bell and the three of them have there own awesome characters, each one not overshadowing the others in any way.
Characters Score: 8/10
Gameplay:
Gameplay, is like most RPGs of the same type as this game. You Level Up, and you get SP from Monsters and Quests, which you can use to Enhance your Skills and Aswell as change your class. Each Character has Different Classes and All play a vital role in your strategy. The Game is however hard, and if you dont come in prepared, your going to die very horribly almost everywhere in the game.'
The Dungeons in the game are insanely, unnecessarily long, and the monsters are unnecessarily strong, and each battle does not feel satisfying as they dont give much SP, EXP and Loot, almost most of the times you will find yourself escaping the battles, just to survive. Bosses are deadly and can easily kill if you arent prepared and even if you are they are still a pain to deal with. Though one thing likable is the fact that each boss can be overcome if there attack patterns are memorized.
Traversing to Towns Feels like a Chore and Almost most of the time you arent told where to go. If you dont pay attention to your characters dialogues, you will always find yourself most of the time lost and seeking help.
The Main Charm in the game is its Weapon Upgrades and Weapon Crafting system, You Gather Materials from monsters and dungeons and use them to upgrade your armor and weapons. Though most of the time you will find the Materials hard to find, but once you upgrade your Weapons and Armor, You will always find them satisfying.
However if you are a true RPG fan, you will find the game be Hardcore and to your liking. Hard mode almost most of the times is impossible, gives, more Drops, SP and EXP, and thus people will find it more interesting to defeat every monster in the game.
Gameplay: 7.5/10
Replayability:
The game has replayability value, but almost half the time in your second playthrough, you will feel like letting go of the game, because of its Monsters and Crafting, Though The Story Element Does Try To Keep its Replayability up and running, it is vastly outweighed by the above points
Replayability: 5/10
Conclusion:
A Fitting game which is meant to be played by most RPG Hardcore Fans will like, trying to cater most of the market, the game is good and deserves the praise.
Final Score: 8/10
