Hello,
first of all, no i'm not talking of an extra boss but i wanted to name the topic like that. i am currently trying to finish this game and really it's hard. i read the review here and i disagree partially on the difficulty and the necessary grinding.
the game begins with easy fight as long as you are in the forest and until you obtain the fourth character. after that, i was obliged to grind for xp but also for money. everything is too much expensive in this game. it's important also to understand the orb system. by equiping correct orb, you can gain new spell, healing to not name it, and attack spell. one thing people will miss also (at the beginning) is that the special attack use HP. at some point i would say it is easier to manage HP with a 4 mp healing spell than using herb to recharge MP. for odd reason, herb can be gained in battle but are difficult to buy...
once Hagg join the team, it is the turn of Jou to come. Jou offers a small side story but again, to survive the side story, you have to grind up to level 20 to fill comfortable. levels are not so easy to grind but there are good spot near the village before going to the cave. why is that ? some monster can be killed only by magic. your mp are low, your character are slow and weak against magic until a certain point... customize the soul orb to 150 in each category. one thing that is great is the wizardry spell of Sania that lower the stat of the enemies, boss included.
happy to survive this story you advance gloriously to the next town and arrive to the labyrinth of Garm. i'd say you need to wander not until you are bored to activate the event but until the game is bored of you running around and having few HP and MP remaining. be sure to stock up here. indeed , even after 3 laps, the event can occur on the fourth or fifth without any clue of what to do (just collect the chest maybe it is the trigger in fact). at this point, you should have customize the soul orb to 300 in each category.
Once you exit, you will face the first true boss which requires spell level 30. why so ? at level 30 you will acquire killer moves and believe me they are worth spending HP and endanger the whole party. you could say after that now you are invincible but the game doesn't stop here. i would recommend to invest time on everyone to help them gain level. again, the wizardry spell coupled to the killer move will help you.
then you go after the demon queen. she is not easy to find. you need to acquire a boat and then you will wander south trying to find a beach to land, otherwise you will stay prisonner of the boat (it's a common question on other site with no answer so laugh if you want). demon queen castle is not indicated by anything in the game, story text or flag. to find it, just look at the map and reach the north side (to not regret your life) of the south island. beware of the fish, they are quick and if they attack first, they one shot your hero.
in the demon queen castle, you will fight so much in a neverending dungeon that will gain easily 18 levels if you do every fight. good thing you do that because the demon queen is unkillable until level 52 and some serious upgrade of your soul orb to 600 (customize up to 40/50). the demon queen is hard to kill and she hit very hard (up to 1800 points at low level hence once shot to kill your party member). you could say that buff spell are useful, they are. Use the killer move of Gyok and Shin wisely as the queen moves every turn. whoever is the third character, i suggest he has high HP.
and again, you will have an accomplisment feeling in you. however it's nothing with a superior boss, Natasha who appears very quickly. but it's great without any grinding, you should be able to win. just patience and tactic. at last you can obtain a flying vehicule (after a boss fight but now you know you need to grind if necessary). i arrived in the last dungeon of the game inly to stop against Jyun, an even more powerful boss...
to spend my time smartly for now, i have revisited all the towns. it appears you find some side quest, monster hunting only. do that in each town. in fact, there are no more than 5 or 6 as said in another review.
well, i will come back to share my thought on how to beat Jyun and maybe the last boss.
the game is very hard but i am only at 13h (although i have the feeling to have played the double amount with all the grinding). the battle are interesting (but i do'nt understand how to use properly the bomb art and the grid thing in the battle menu) and the game overall direction is correct. i really don't understand why it is so hard to progress.
see you for part 2, comment or questions welcomed of course.
