Hi jimmyjoe, I think if you enjoy Alphadia and the Asdivine games, you'd also really like Unlucky Hero. They're all made by Exe Create, so some parts of it will feel pretty similar - and yet Unlucky Hero truly is unique even among Exe Create games. While a lot of their other titles are just "fun," this one seems more mature, polished, and sophisticated.

My opinion is, it would be hard not to like this game. :)

I am about 13 hours in, at level 40. It is a nice game, a little basic in regards to customization of characters but they have skill books which allow you to increase your chances for a multitude of things from avoiding poison, to increasing criticals, etc. and those are pretty common so basically all characters have everything. Other than that, it feels pretty standard. Some of the boss battles can get tough so you will spend *some time grinding, but not a lot. Usually I grind until I have used up all three meat restores.

I feel the dialogue is too much. Sometimes it just feels like "blah blah blah". I swear there was like a 30 or 40 minute period where there was no battles, just talking and that gets old. Plus many other 10+ minute scenes. I prefer less on the story and more on the gameplay. Though some of the dialogue is pretty funny/interesting to be fair there is just too much talking!

Also, there is a lot of backtracking and moving between common points/towns. I swear, I had to go back to this one town like a dozen times just to report back (ugh.) so warp points would have been nice (or am I missing something).

Sound effects are recycled from other games from this developer but overall I feel like it is pretty unique. I like it!

And this game been just recently(three days ago?) released by Kemco on 3DS...

I generally liked the game, and the walls of text, but I also disliked how much we had to travel. Even more I disliked how we had no random encounters while riding a horse. Because of that, I almost never used my horse..

But I must admit I liked all of the characters in this game, but the Queen's (stupid) sister. Overall it is a nice game with nice little plot.

At almost the end of the game You will receive a horse that can travel through the mountains, so You will be ale to travel much faster. But at that point of the game, You won't really need to travel anywhere ;).

Anyway, like I mentioned, Kemco a couple of times released this game for 3DS. They showed us a screen of it, and in it we can see the world map in a better quality. Maybe it will be useful to You.

The other thing I loved about this game was how you can change formations in the middle of battle.

I don't remember what any of them were called, but there's one that lets you auto-heal (I think?) a small amount of HP every turn. All I remember for sure is that I changed formations A LOT in this game.

And I really like how throughout the story, the main character beats everyone else by tricking them and outsmarting them. I felt like that part of the story was really unique.

Changing formations was very nice. It reminded me of "Burning Heroes", an snes game that dynamic designs translated a while back. (originally it was a Japanese only game, but DD fan translated it). Burning Heroes is a little repetitive but not bad, as there are 8 different main characters and 8 different story paths, each a few hours long and with each main character you get 3 other characters you can recruit.

Any way, as of late I usually just keep it between the 120% attack, 100% damage taken and when I need to heal HP and MP, I switch to the 40% Attack, 40% damage taken for a few rounds, until I am healed. Look forward to seeing what new formations come my way! Like the auto heal for one.

Oooooooohhhhh.....

I might have been wrong about auto heal. It might just be that I used the 40% one like you mentioned. So if you don't get an auto heal formation don't get mad at me.

Nahh! I won't get mad! haha. That 40% damage taken formation is very nice and makes a lot of battles that would otherwise be extremely hard manageable. It was very underappreciated, for me at least, at first. But now I love it!
