background-image: url is the one you’re thinking of. I’m just getting started with basic colors; I’m nowhere near ready to mess with background images. (One step at a time) ?
No, I am definitely not speaking about background-image, I am speaking of the CSS property you must set because, you know, different computers/tablets/mobiles, different screens to render. There was a property to keep background consistent, otherwise it may move as you scrolldown the page, may have awkward rendering at borders, etc.
I’m surprised if this new look makes the site run slower on your machine… so far I’m using a lot fewer resources on my host, and also the html/css for this layout is THOUSANDS of lines less than before… however, I have been flushing my cache A LOT – like every time I make a small change somewhere… so you might be experiencing that? idk…
Anyway thanks for the feedback!
Well, first it fetches all data and render the topic tables, and then it starts deploying the CSS (colors, etc.)
It may be either one of those:
A- cache
B- the preload setting
C- Firefox is simply one of the worst web browsers I use.

mobile chrome with clear cache did not seem to present this issue (actually, the page loaded quite fast), so it's probably a sum of A and C. (Firefox is slow, you know. It is always taking too much memory, and the Kernel have to throttle it every now and then. And my cached data is 512 MB.)

Oh I don't know then. I think I misunderstood, because you were talking about using solid colors versus background images, and so I assumed it was background url...

Now I surely don't know what you mean, unless you're talking about media queries?

Admittedly, though, there is a lot that I still need to learn, so I wouldn't doubt that its something else that I'm not familiar with....

I *think* I now have the forum looking the way I want it to; I mean some elements could stand to be a teensy bit smaller/larger, thinner/wider - but overall I'm happy. Happy enough to leave it as is. :)

I do really like the orange now, and the little shadows around the different elements - in my opinion, that shadow helps to pull things together and even makes the colors work better. (Oh, and I am sticking with fewer overall colors... the color scheme I had on launch day was an ugly mess compared to this simpler approach. Amazing what can be accomplished in just a few days of "Oh NO this is live now and the whole world can see it! This has to look better!" :)

So for now I'm hoping to leave things alone, and go back to studying, playing, and working on a walkthrough for Tenmilli RPG (which I barely started on right before Dragon Lapis dropped! oh well, I should have some time now before the next new Kemco game...)

Again - if there is anything straight up wrong with the site or the new layout, please let me know. There are so many small details across the whole site I'd be ridiculously lucky to have got everything right on my first try.

Also, if you come across any aspect of the new design, that you don't like or think could be improved, please let me know that as well. (You can post here, or send me a PM if you prefer.) While I can't promise to change everything, I will promise to listen to all feedback, suggestions, criticisms, and requests.

Actually as far as random comments are concerned, you could also allow sorting games at game page by highest rating - no wait, it doesn't relates to design.

Cookies at privacy policy does not state they help you to keep logged in- no wait, this also doesn't relates to design.

Emotes are not rendered into gifs like previously, they are kept in UTF8 characters, meaning on Desktop they'll probably be black outlines and on mobile they'll be rendered using the mobile keyboard emotions images. Actually, this is not something bad, and is also off-topic. Try harder, jesusalva.

There seems to be obscure information, for example, in the “Welcome to the blog!” post, because what I've reported above, I know it is generated information about what I rated and when, however it is not displayed. Actually, does that relates to design? Oh well.

The navigation at bottom from articles sometimes seem a little... Ah, how could I describe... Like if you would expect them to be displayed in the same line, but they're not.
Maybe the font is too large in some places. Actually, it would require them to be trimmed or font size to be automatically adjusted to the string length to look perfect, but that is something I don't know how to do (without using magic numbers - bad code).

Trimming them is probably the best option (if len(next_topic_title) > x then display only the first words followed by a "..." or something like that). Well, now THAT is about design! Finally, it was kinda difficult to find something to write about >.<

In other words, the design is good enough imo. Good work! Well, now I wonder what will come up next after you study more :D
Jesusalva out.

EDIT: Actually, when on Forums page, the numbers of topics/replies after the subforum name is... well, odd/not-well-explained.
I am assuming they are topics/replies numbers based on the information usually displayed on this forum.

Actually the font size on the "Previous" and "Next" links was one of the first things I noticed (that it's too big, I mean), but I didn't want to say anything about that because I was waiting to see if anyone else would bring it up. Now that I know it bothers more than just me, I know it's one thing I need to correct...

It may be that the right answer is to shorten the font size, and put them both on the same line (float Previous to the left, and Next to the right; although I probably wouldn't float, I'd probably use flex and just put space-between... anyway it does need to be fixed!)

* It also appears to me that the forum "text input" area is displaying differently... I mean as I sit here typing this message it looks like it's not formatted within this editor the same way that it was before... so I'll have to do some digging (I still have the old theme installed on my desktop, so perhaps I'll find the answer in there somewhere.)

Actually I keep noticing processed but not rendered data everywhere: “This forum contains 8 topics and 26 replies and was last updated by MSG Commander 4 months ago.”

There's also no graphical indication when a topic is favorited, but it shows at the Favorite Topics list nonetheless (I'm not sure if that resource is used, though. Personally I've never used it.)

I'm weary with “Who's Online” section. Your name appeared and disappeared from that section at least three times while I was writing this message, and your online time didn't float in more than 5 minutes. You were also marked as offline and my name vanished from that list while I was checking for any possible thing I could've been forgetting.

About emotes, special codes like "mrgreen" works:  however less-special ones still follow UTF8 rule, like c: aka. :)

This is everything I have to report. Please mind the “EDIT” :P
(I remembered that I forgot to visit and check a few things before)

There are links to "Favorite" and to "Subscribe" to topics. They're only visible when you're logged in - but if they're not showing up for you at all, then that's something I need to try and correct...

There's also a link to subscribe to individual forums, but it's not decorated as nicely so it might be harder to spot. (There is no option to "Favorite" a forum, only forum topics.)

As for "This forum contains 8 topics etc..." that information is generated by bbPress (the forum software), and I don't know how to turn it off, but I don't want to display it because I prefer to keep the forum pages uncluttered... less information at the top of the page means users can get to the forum/topic faster. So, since I can't stop it from rendering I just set the display to none.

"Who's Online" only tracks who's actually logged in and active (i.e. has clicked on a link somewhere) for, it looks like, 3 minutes... I can try raising the limit to 5 minutes, but as far as I know there's no way to just display everyone who's logged in, regardless of whether they're "active" or not. Besides that could get confusing in the other way - sometimes I'm logged in for the entire afternoon, but I go away to make lunch or something, so if it showed I was online the whole time then someone might wonder why I'm not answering their PM? idk

(The plugin I used before only tracked users who were online for the past 5 minutes, I believe, so this one shouldn't be that different. It just gives a different appearance, I think.)

I can look into that though, and see if there's a better way to do it.

Well, try setting a page background to a 400x400 image and you may see what I mean... “scaling” may be correct word.

Yes, what I meant is that I thought it would show a star near the topic so I know it is a favorite
After all, I was speaking about design, not about bugs :P

Session state seems to be stored in cookies too, which can keep you connected for 20 days in a row, so I don't think there is a *good* way to know that. Well, I think that 5 minutes is more reasonable than 3 because... you'll probably stop to read a forum topic. And you won't be clicking any links for quite some time. That may be just me though. (Personally, I could use any value between 5 and 15 minutes)

Arrggh... Now I just went and updated a forum plugin, and the developer changed all the CSS classes and I've lost the formatting!!! (It never ends...)

So some things look a little off right now, but I should have it fixed by the end of the day... I hope...
