During this dearth of anything new and shiny from Kemco, I've been replaying the games I have. Music scores in them don't do much for me. I'm not saying they're bad, but I prefer to listen to other media. Of course, I've got my 80's music handy  ; however, more and more I find myself turning to podcasts.
I LOVE the radio dramas especially the creepy "Tanis", "The Black Tapes", "Limetown" and "Archive 81." When I'm looking for something a little more comically fantastical, there's "strange N unusual." Other podcasts I like are "Dan Carlin's Hardcore History" and "Lore." And several from the TWiT network. Those are just a few I keep up with.
Now, it's your turn. What do you listen to? or are you a purist that keeps the game sound cranked? :cheer:

Neither. I play the game in public and i'm unable to use headphones so i play with the sound off all the time.

Lemmy isn't talking to himself. I started this thread with a post about the stuff I listened to...then I spotted a typo while reading his reply...went to fix it at the same time my dog jumped on my lap....

POOF!

It got deleted. And I can't get it back. Oh well, it's still a ghost town here. Maybe we could just pretend a tumbleweed carried it away. :silly:
Sorry, Lemmy!
(And I do the silent thing too when in public...or as some people call it , at work (JK, that would never happen  )

If I'm listening to music, it's my iTunes collection, which is primarily British rock from the 70s and 80s. Mainly the more obscure NWOBHM stuff.
With the games, I generally kind of enjoy most of the music, but it's too short and looping to be particularly memorable. They usually peak at the level of "almost really good, but just not enough there", so it's good to have music on hand. Every once in a while, they do have something I legit dig. The boss fight theme in Link of Hearts was some solid "rock out" guitar and the final dungeon theme in Alphadia Genesis (also played during the intro movie when you boot it up) is cool, too. While I haven't played it yet, from the trailer, it seems that Blood of Calamity is pretty good music-wise, as well.

Just restored 3beez' post.
I tend to listen to the game music most of the time.

I have a Galaxy Mega so until I get an L adapter holding my phone with both hands while my headphones are in is super annoying so usually I just have the music off. I'll still listen to the game music at key points such as the final boss, final dungeon, etc via headphones but nothing in these soundtracks has even slightly impressed me yet.
Then again I do play jRPGs on console too (examples from the last 5 console jRPGs I beat)
Tales of Zestiria
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
Atelier Sophie
MegaDimension Neptunia V II (yes, I know bringing up Nobuo FREAKIN Uematsu is cheating)
Nights of Azure (yes, I know bringing up Nights of Azure, Symphony of the Night, Chrono Trigger or Nier is cheating. They're the best soundtracks ever)
The thing with music is that it's 90% talent, 10% money. As is shown by some of the RPG Maker games I play (mainly horror ones). While the songs above contain one of the most famous game composers ever and two colossal production titles these next two are made by almost completely unknown individuals who just happened to be extremely talented.
Afterlife: The Second Dimension
Chelsea
I was working on a game once (it died) where you could put in your own audio tracks but unlike other games that did that this one gave either audio samples of the original tracks (as common with games that allow custom audio) or you could stay spoiler free and just get a description of the "feel" of the song, so you could match an appropriate song to it without spoiling the official soundtrack.
I'd love it if EXE-Create and other Kemco devs stepped their music up a notch, if not in audio
umph then at least in artistic quality.
EDIT: Removed all those thumbnails. Sorry for anyone who read this topic and got bombarded by Youtube.

Sorry. I didn't think it would convert my regular links to imbed links. I'm trying to fix it now.
