RPG Insanity

I was wondering; does anyone know at which level familiar spirits learn magic skills? Is it player related levels, like their physical skills? I've looked for the info in the help section in-game, at his forum and generally online but I haven't found anything regarding that, or much that was useful for a player of this game in general other than here (and maybe an xbox forum list of tips for reaching achievements).
