New look to the site coming soon
oh yeah! Love the new look! Now I'm conflicted if I should use contrast mode or not. I love dark themes but the new color sceme does look nice. I do wonder if a dark shade of brown will work better for the header and the footer as orange conflicts on the over all color scheme of the site.
Oh and huzzah for finally adding the latest topics on the front page again!

You're too kind!
But honestly I'm glad you like it. I'm pretty happy with the way the Game pages and Blog pages look; I think the main background color makes it more attractive...
And I like the orange bar at the top and bottom of the forum... but I'm not sure about the alternating colors for the forum itself. I mean I like the idea of different colors, to differentiate between forums/topic; I'm just not sure these specific colors are the right ones...
(I'm also not 100% sold on the alternating colors for monster lists, item lists, etc... I feel like what I have now is an improvement over what they used to look like - but it's still not what I'd like it to be... problem is, I don't really have a clear vision of what I want it to be, more like just a vague impression.)
As for the header and footer, I actually experimented a teensy bit with brown colors but I couldn't find anything I liked... and the orange on the footer is kind of growing on me (although maybe it's just the small size and un-cluttered footer that I like, I don't know). I think if I made the header a bit smaller on mobile, it might be less of an issue too.
Anyway it's definitely a work in progress. Hopefully as I continue to learn, it will just get better!

Well this is definitely better than the bling madness of white that you had going before(and I usually have my devices brightness around 60-80% so go figure lol). The orange is too strong and so its really distracting, something that fades out in the corner of the eyes will be a lot nicer and I just think that brown might work with what you're going righr now.
I've only seen the new layout with my tablet so I'm only seeing the desktop version of the site. Will check the mobile later too.

I like the layout. I like the orange. lol But I do agree with zherk01 about dark themes. I try to "dark" everything I can to keep from being blinded. I solve my desktop issue by using a Chrome extension called "Dark Reader." With the new colors, Dark Reader renders the site as mostly brown (see pic). I need to get something like it for mobile. Ultimately, this is your baby, MSG Commander. You get to dress it anyway you want. ?

Wow I didn't even know you could change the colors like that! Anyway (even though it's only been a day) I think I see now why orange is maybe not the best color for the header... compared to the main body, it's too "eye-catching," like it basically draws your attention away from the main content...
Anyway I am liking the fact that it's not just the "ugly white" anymore... and I'm pretty happy with the overall design, especially for my first attempt.
My main concern (and the reason I almost didn't do this!) is that nothing about the new layout really says "Gaming site." But, one step at a time, right? Little by little, I'm certain I can get there.

Okay, I solved the issue with the Forum index links not showing up when you view a single topic! But there's no still no links if you navigate to a forum that doesn't have any topics. But, I can live with it (at least for the moment).
EDIT: Fixed the "no topics" forums as well. Now there's only no links on the (entirely useless) forum search page.

Well, you are using solid colors for background. Most websites use an image for background, which could do the trick... or just become a visual pollution mess... Not only that but you need to learn more than <body background=> depending on the image you use (it was an additional CSS property, eh, I forgot its name. Was it display?)
The new look is indeed neat, although it take quite some time to render on my trusty slow* machine. I'll just throw a random idea: In some forums you have an option to change the default CSS file, based on a set number of presets. As you can expected, this setting only applies to logged users (need to save the data somewhere, after all, and cookies are not the way for long-term).
Well, it's overall an interesting feature, useful when you want to let the user decide on lighter×darker themes, or you can't decide between two particularly neat templates.
But then, this can give you a lot of trouble
So regard this as a random idea <.< 3beez couldn't have put that better:

Note for self: Check if the emotes still render →
*: Question: does 'trusty slow' means that I can trust my machine even if it is slow, or does it means that I can trust my machine will slow down? :>

background-image: url is the one you're thinking of. I'm just getting started with basic colors; I'm nowhere near ready to mess with background images. (One step at a time)
I may, some day, be able to offer different CSS presets - but right now I'm struggling with just one look... and you want me to offer multiple themes... (So people can choose between multiple awkward, semi-finished layouts?) j/k It is a good idea, and I know some sites offer that kind of thing; I'm just not so sure that it's easy to do using WordPress...
...but hey, I learned how to alter some "core" template files for this (well, I made my own copies; I didn't dare actually change the core lol...)
I'm surprised if this new look makes the site run slower on your machine... so far I'm using a lot fewer resources on my host, and also the html/css for this layout is THOUSANDS of lines less than before... however, I have been flushing my cache A LOT - like every time I make a small change somewhere... so you might be experiencing that? idk...
Anyway thanks for the feedback!
