Stuck with nowhere to go--solved

I am now at level 10, and have no indication of anything to do.  There are 0 requests, and nothing happens in the Guild or the Tavern.  I have started a new day, and nothing changes.  In addition, although I now have an extra skill slot (for passives, I believe), I don't have any additional passive skills (only the initial 2) so I can't use the slots.  The only thing I can think of is that I have to keep raising the store rank (I'm still at 1), but I don't see any place in the manual or in the game to give me any suggestion.  Oh, and at the arena, I've completed the first section (Bronze League 2) and the game will not let me advance to the next section (the manual does say that story progress is an condition, but no details).

So, what should I do?

[UPDATE]  OK, I tracked down what seems to me to be an obscure directive that did point to what it would take to raise the rank of the store.  So I raised the rank, and now new requests are available.  The arena levels are still locked, and no new passive skills have appeared.  I will just assume they are story progress dependent.
