IIRC, I had my fastest character use "Sagacity" (Lumberjack Class), and the second fastest equipped with the Monocle and the AoE item to target all enemies with normal attacks. Early on most metal mobs will run away, but with luck you can crit at least one. If you get a chance to use your other characters, try using a skill that targets "All."
