The game is pretty mature that's for sure. There is one part in the ending which left me thinking. However I played this a long time ago and can't recall much at the moment.
In the end even though it is dark, as long as kids don't understand and as long as people don't say it out loud in the forum, I am fine with that. Remember, Kemco never said there games are kid friendly ( neither did Exe Create ) , we are only speculating that at the moment and so far the speculation have gone fine with a few hitches here and there ( Glorious Savior being one of them ).
I must be naive, but I didn't have any problems with Glorious Savior. (I just imagined that the "evil" scenes were reminiscent of an old black and white movie where the villain's idea of doing something really bad is, I don't know, locking a girl up in a tower until she falls in love with him, or something.) And again, with the innuendo in this game and especially in Dogma, I figured it was "read between the lines" kinda thing, where I didn't exactly like it all but I didn't have a huge problem with it either.
But those things reflect my personal taste, not the rules for what games are allowed on the forum.
Let me try to dig deeper into this:
A lot of games are definitely NOT "kid appropriate" as a general rule. I still play them, still enjoy them, and regarding my nephew, I let him play (but we're usually in the same room so if something did come up, I'm there to talk about with him.)
That said, I have let my nephew play almost every Kemco game (maybe I'm a bad influence :silly: ).
With Blood of Calamity, well basically the main character "loves" women and always talk about their body parts - like in almost every single line of dialogue. Unfortunately I did not anticipate that when my nephew and I started it, since no other Kemco games are THAT explicit - but with that one game, he didn't play very far into it
because he didn't like the language. (So in a way I dodged a bullet with that one.)
A lot of other stuff, yeah, either he skips over it, or can't really grasp HOW tragic it really is. Still the argument can be made that the games aren't made for kids (which they're not) and so therefore kids shouldn't even play them (and it could be argued, then, that there's no reason for the forum to be kid friendly - but the reality is, kids do play them, and will find their way to this site, when they get stuck and need a walkthrough.)
I don't know specifically how Kemco games compare to other devs, whether mobile, console, etc, when it comes to "dark" subject matter in the games, because before Kemco the last game I played was FFX. So I'm really out of touch with the whole genre.
I do feel that it's the parent's/guardian's responsibility to know or to monitor what their kids are playing, and I know that most games are rated and that should be enough to keep a Teen game out of a kid's hands - but I think it's a safe bet that a lot of kids are playing games that are rated Teen or not rated at all.
(Especially kids of gamers, probably get away with playing certain games because their parents know the genre and know what they think is ok for the kids. If we were playing, I don't know, Grand Theft Auto, I'd be much more relaxed about the language on the forum, because only an INSANE person would give that game to a child, in my opinion. Now maybe I'm insane to give Symphony of the Origin to a child, but I know more children than just my nephew who have played that game.)
And as I've said before, I don't have any control over what's IN the game itself, so it's not so much about "Is the game kid friendly?" It could be nice to somehow advise others, but the more I think about it, that's really not our responsibility, it lies with whoever is giving their kid access to the tablet/game/website/whatever.
But I do feel that it's my responsibility to maintain an environment, where anyone can feel comfortable coming to read or post on the forum, or use the walkthroughs, and not have to sort through a bunch of posts where people are just swearing all the time or saying what I consider to be horrible or rude things to each other. (Calling other people stupid, or name calling, or starting flame wars etc.)
Now, I personally don't like swearing, and I don't like nudity in games, and I don't like games that have people's brains exploding and splattering all over the place (though I have played those games before, and if it's a good story I can put up with that to a degree). So far Kemco hasn't done nudity or exploding brains, though.
But any Kemco or Exe Create game is fine to discuss. And I'd say for the most part that any rpg is fine to discuss. I'm not so concerned with whether or not the GAME is kid friendly. (Honestly, let the parents sort that one out.)
I am concerned with whether or not the SITE is kid friendly (though, maybe I need a better term to describe it, because I certainly don't mean everything has to be lollipops and unicorns - I just don't want bad language or lots of innuendo or that kind of thing?)
