I lold when I got a long wall of te.... I mean awesome in depth view of how MSG thinks of the Kemcos Kid Friendliness. I agree though to be fair my post was to actually finish the topic and not let it get out of hand :p

Except for the minor misunderstanding about the topic (game appropriateness vs forum appropriateness), I think this is my favorite thread. Broaching themes and substance has been a nice change from our usual topics. Thanks, Nemo!

Finished the normal Ending, and was about to play the true (?) or rather alternate ending. I have noticed two more things that I would like to share. The first one is Lapis and his words. During one of the converstations he said that he wants to pluck out Tourma's eyes. I think this is kinda drastic thing, and knowing that Lapis is a sadist he probably really meant this...

The second thing is Amethos who set up a bomb on one of his soldiers and detonated it to flee when he was defeated. Normally antagonists are blowing up buildings or something to flee, blowing up a real human, and a follower isn't something common...

And I think I know what Azyleo meant when he said that something in the ending was not right. While I didn't beat the special ending yet (it requires one more fight that I was not prepared for), before the battle something interesting, and perhaps unusual happened:
The main hero decided that he is strong enough that he himself can rule the world as a tyrant, erased the mind of his party members and friends making them mindless puppets and fought his former allies.
I must say that this ending really fits the dark theme of the game...

EDIT: And I did read the descriptions of weapons and armour, and must admit that they're hilarious.

Whoa. Is your spoiler leading up to the alternate ending? 'Cause I don't remember that from when I played (but I only played to the first end.)

Now that I've had time to realize you just wanted to discuss the darker elements of the game, I have to say I really appreciate everything you've shared about it. I didn't dig that deep into any of it when I played, because I was mainly focused on the hero, and his brilliant tactics and cunning ways. (I loved how he set different generals against each other, and tricked the other kings.)

The other thing that I loved about this game - was the "original" sub quest to populate the Forgotten Village. Since I played this one long before Asdivine Dios, searching for the fairies in that game was kind of a letdown for me. (And even in Unlucky Hero, I never did 100% finish the Forgotten Village quest...)

When I first discovered Kemco games, though, I honestly rushed through a whole bunch of 'em, because I kept thinking about how many more there were still to play. :lol: So, I didn't really take the time to absorb a lot of the details, or pay too close attention.

Only the games that I've written walkthroughs for, have I actually spent enough time on to really enjoy and remember significant parts of the game.

About the ending, it is kinda different. After finishing the normal ending we are given an option to save the game. Then a star will appear next to the save slot. After loading it, we must fight the final boss again, but after defeating it the game asks us which ending we want to see, and we can see the other ending that is a yet another fight mentioned in the spoiler. I didn't fight this ending yet, so I don't know what happens after it.

Normally I do not look for dark elements in the games, but this particular one is full of them. And looks like the alternate ending was created to confirm this... The MC was not bad, but I think we could say the same thing about almost every other MC. Not to mention that he still was outwitted by the female knight. And she only used a cider... ;). What I also like in this game is how they created a world around slavery. Unlike many other games (for example Alphadias where slavery also exists, but pretty much it is just mentioned and nothing more), here we can see this almost everywhere. We can see people with chains, people locked in cages, and even entire city named "Slave Town".... Not to mention that one of the party members once was a slave too, and even was sold... Little thing, but it just adds up to how ruthless the world of this game is.

About the Forgotten Village, I didn't complete it too. Eight people to find... and I looked for them in all the cities available... But there is one thing I don't like about this game. At almost at the end of the game we can buy a horse (and after watching this scene the "flogging/whipping a dead horse" proverb got a whole new meaning....) that turns out to be a special horse and can fly anywhere but the water. However, nothing new can be found using it. Not a new, normally unreachable, city or dungeon. Nothing.... But the entire game was indeed pretty fun to play.

I had completely forgotten about the slavery element, and that's like a key part of the overall story, as well as the main character's back story if I recall correctly. And the relationship between him and the former slave who joins your party - that was impressive.
If I recall, he's the same slave who was freed/rescued by the main character's father?
Having played this before Asdivine Dios even came out, I have to say that at the time, this was hands down, Exe Create's best all around game (and far more mature, with much more depth, than the Kemco/Exe Create games, especially when compared to the original Alphadia - which I still love, despite its many flaws).

Strange that this one title would be published by Exe Create, and not by Kemco... maybe Kemco has a target demographic that, indeed, this game was too mature for? I don't know. But it's definitely one that I recommend people should play. ;)

I'm glad somebody else is bothered by the treatment of Lucile. I found it unpleasant and not needed for the story.

Yeah, they do have a some kind of relationship. That slave was freed by MC's parents, and a few times during the game he is mentioning that. In fact during the second ending he is mentioning that again, although for a different reason:
"Your parents were great and freed me, and now you want to betray them, their ideals and become a new overlord" - something like that.
I think it is not strange that it was just published by EXE-CREATE. My theory is that by the time when the Unlucky Hero was released, EXE-CREATE was not yet under Kemco's supervision. This is why a whole different company released the English version. This is why Kemco released a remake of the Asdivine Cross despite the fact that the original one was still around (and looked really old). I'm pretty sure the first two Alphadias also looked a little differently, but then were remaked by Kemco, and this is why EXE-CREATE's webpages redirect to corresponding Kemco webpages. Anyway, I kinda hope some other EXE-CREATE games will get a remake too...
