Just posted this on touch arcade:

Take it with a grain of salt.

Tips to pick Kemco rpgs (I have beaten nearly every Kemco game): Top 5 worst Kemco games: 1. Soul of Deva 2. Seven Sacred Beasts 3. Rusted emeth 4. Valyria Soul and the worst of the bunch 5. Elio.

Any other game is, at worst, bearable and average.

Oh, and once you have tried one Asdivine game, you have tried them all so play one or two at most because everything seems to be recycled between those games (and that includes antiquia lost). And, from what I have seen, once you have tried one of the 3D kemco games, you have tried them all (recycled stuff again but Alphadia Genesis is probably the best of the 3D bunch)...

Magitec is better than people give them credit for. I have beaten them all. But there are four games people should stick with: Covenant of Solitude, Chrome Wolf, Grinsia and Soul Historica. Once you play and beat those, you have seen nearly everything the company has to offer and are not missing much. After that, you will get sick of games with small world maps and long winding dungeons with spikes and going way off the main trail for treasure with, literally, NOTHING most of the time.

Games that require thought, rather than just picking them up include Dark Gate and Cronus arc so if you want something you can learn quickly, those are not for you. Though I loved them once I got the hang of them. In fact, I think hit point tries the hardest to make different games (aforementioned dark gate and chronus arc) along with rusted emeth (crappy version of metal max returns (snes)), Cross Hearts Arcadia and legna tactica, one of kemcos only srpgs if you want some strategy. Between Bond of skies and Machine Knight, choose one, they are so damn similar though machine knights character building is more interesting.

You will (likely) not go wrong with Symphony of eternity AND symphony of origin, two of kemcos best. Knights of earthends is also very solid. If you still can not get enough of those styles (those three games), destiny fantasia and Eclipse of Illusion should do it. Eve of Genesis is totally different from the other wws games, but a fun short little game. Tears Revolude actually has a few tough puzzles which were memorable for me and finally legend of ixtona was kemco's other srpg though not as good.

So if that info helps you to narrow down your search for a kemco RPG, I am happy.

It honestly sounds like you don't enjoy their games alot,i can see but its also because i see them as fun games without no heavy story like nihon falcom's kiseki series who builds both on characters and world at each trilogy

Maybe it came across the wrong way.

I do enjoy many of their games.

The top 5 worst I listed were the worst, they are very bad IMO. Everything else is, AT LEAST, average, 7/10. Many of them are ranked higher than average, like 8/10. I did get sick of the asdivine games by the time I got to cross, however. Perhaps cause I played the first 3 almost literally all in a row.

The four magitec games I list are very solid, 8/10 type games but after that, I kinda get the point, average at best. And that is my point about kemco, if you have played enough games, after a while, it is all just comfortably average (hence why IMO 1 or 2 asdivine games is enough, the first was one of the best, the second.....). I want to see them take some chances.

My bad if it came across the wrong way.

IMO, I really thought Elio was thee very worst. But I know some people, even on this forum, dig the game a lot. But I would not recommend it as a first game for someone new to Kemco. Even though I ended up loving Dark Gate (9/10) I would not recommend that, actually. I think symphony of eternity (IMO 8.5/10) is a very good place to start. Then maybe Eve of Genesis.

I think I get where Travelman is coming from; a lot of the games do start to feel "recycled" to some degree after you've played a good 20 or so of the better titles.

But I don't think the majority of their games are bad - and I didn't read as Travelman meant that they're bad either.

I actually think part of what makes Kemco games so popular, is that once you're played enough of them, then they are to a certain extent "predictable." Which is a good thing, because it means that their fans should know pretty much what to expect in another Kemco game (except for the few major disappointments like Soul of Deva and Valkyria Soul...)

But, after writing location walkthroughs for Asdivine Dios, Menace, and Cross (playing once to get a feel for the game, second time to write the walkthrough, third time to verify the information)... when Antiquia Lost came out I was disappointed... not with the game, just with the timing..

I would add a few of their other "overlooked" titles to the good list -

Crystareino (yes the menus are a pain and you do have to equip items to your characters BEFORE battle or you won't be able to use them, but the story is really good and the game is uber retro in a good way)

Justice Chronicles - very similar game mechanics to Machine Knight or Bonds of the Skies, but MUCH better graphics, cool menu interface, witty dialogue - and LOTS AND LOTS OF GRINDING. Still it's one of my favorite games from the last 18 months.

and it's already been mentioned, but I have to add:

Eve of the Genesis. This game is incredibly short, incredibly "basic" (i.e. no advanced skill building system or crazy in-depth plot line or Alphadia-style dungeons or secret arenas; although there is a bonus location and the elemental phoenixes are NASTY, but the game itself is just pure and simple and straightforward, and yet still manages to be really, really fun.)

Also the Symphony games are the BEST! I would love to see a third title in this series, only a prequel to Eternity. (In Eternity the golems talk briefly about a war they fought in a long time ago... I'd love to see that story turned into a game...)

Ah sorry I missed that. I'm super busy trying to get ready to upgrade this site and add a couple new features, so now's not the best time for me. Sorry :(
