That didn't happen to me.
Are you sure you haven't left the dungeon before fighting any bosses?

I beat all the bosses necessary to make it to level 90, where I killed that boss and then chose return to base. I then proceeded to kill the Guild Hero. After killing the boss on level 90, it is possible I left the dungeon after returning to base. Prior to that, I did return to the entrance of the Hell dungeon, which is where I got the choice to return at midpoint (I had left on 90, so I'm guessing, according to your prior response, that in fact there are about 180 levels). Now that start at midpoint is gone, my records show "90" for levels completed.

It's possible that there's a glitch whereby after you defeat the Guild Hero, the dungeon resets.

But, I myself accidentally left the dungeon once without beating the next boss, and had to start over from Level 1.

(Basically I left at Level 104 because the enemies were way too strong for me, and returned at the midpoint - 51 - and then left the dungeon before beating the boss on Level 60. I will not make that mistake again.)
Something strange happened, and perhaps somebody could check. Prior to beating the Guild Hero, I was offered the choice to begin the Hell dungeon "midway" (I had completed 90 levels). But now, after beating the Guild Hero (or perhaps leaving the area and then returning, I don't know), that option isn't offered. Has anybody else seen the option offered, and then have it disappear?
This threw me the first time I saw it too. But after several forays in and out of the dungeon, I figured out what the gatekeeper meant. I'll try to explain, but be warned..I usually can't explain my way out of a paper bag. Here goes:

For each ten floors there is a boss. (Duh, I know everyone knows this, but, hey, splaining ain't mah thang! lol). If you beat this boss and then exit the dungeon, the next time you enter, you will have the choice of midway (for example if you beat floor ten boss, you would enter midway i.e. floor 5) or, the end (again, beating floor ten boss, would put you at floor 11).

However, if you leave after re-entering (say,at floor 19) and before you beat the next floor boss (in this example, floor 20), the dungeon resets, and you would have to start at floor one the next time you re-enter the dungeon.

I bet I made that as clear as mud.

That's actually a pretty solid explanation. Thank you!

Hmm...maybe I forgot and entered on floor 1, then left. So I'm sure you must be right.
But something you said isn't clear to me: does this mean the "midpoint" isn't the midpoint of the dungeon, but only the midpoint of how far you got? So when I made it level 90, the "midpoint" doesn't mean that 90 is halfway to the end (so about 180 levels), but rather say 45. That saves me a lot of work, as I was willing to grind 90 more levels to get to the end, but not xxxx to get to yyyy (if there is any end!).

Thanks to ALL.

That's quite clear, but I do have a problem with it as it applies to the Hell dungeon. I beat the boss on level 200, and was given thechoice to go on or return to base. I chose return to base. When I try to reenter the dungeon, I get only 3 choices: start from 1F, midway, or walk away. There is no option to start from the end; I can't start at 201. So does anybody else have the 4th choice in the hell dungeon, to start at the "end"?

OK, I see now. You aren't given the choice of end initially, but after you click on midpoint, THEN it shows the choice. Whew.
