Tips for a Freemium Player?

I can't offer any specific tips for Freemium players, but just a little bit of grinding makes the game a lot easier. To quote from one of my posts in another thread:
"As soon as you obtain the ship, it’s completely up to you how difficult the game will be. You can easily grind to level 999 while maximizing Lunaria’s stats using the money earned in battles, and then you can just as easily maximize your other party members’ stats thanks to the arena."
When you obtain the ship, you can discover and exploit the Metal enemy island. Reaching level 999 and using most of your money for Lunaria's food expenses is more than enough to beat the game and all optional challenges even on the hardest difficulty setting (you don't even need to maximize your - other - party members' stats).
More useful tips are surely mentioned in the other threads. Anyway, I think you can enjoy a relaxed playthrough without too many worries and preparations (if you want).

I see you already know how it's done.
Skills should (usually) be based on strength, while magic should (usually) be based on intelligence (even when elemental levels aren't factored in) - unless the skill descriptions and/or the game's help section say otherwise. You can simply level up your party members to level 999 and check in which direction (strength or intelligence) they've headed, while also considering your equipment options. By farming stat seeds at the arena (or, in Lunaria's case, by making selective food purchases), you can build your party members any way you want; you can even max all stats of all party members with a little bit of effort and patience.
Another factor to consider is which spell scrolls you manage to obtain by playing the gatcha. Since it's relatively easy to reach the damage cap when strong party members fire off strong spells, it might be to your advantage to obtain a comparitively weaker spell that deals multiple hits (instead of a single hit), especially when each of these hits still reaches the damage cap. Nevertheless, all this min-maxing is completely optional. A level 999 party that uses their strongest skills and spells shouldn't encounter serious resistance.

I don't remember the exact location, since I don't have my save files anymore.
Just take a look at the world map provided in this forum and visit all the small islands - then you'll find the metal enemies in no time:

I believe there is some type of equipment - it might be a Shop item, I'm not sure - that guarantees the wearer gets the first turn in battle.
The guaranteed first turn is very helpful, because when you're searching random islands or areas reachable by ship, you can easily run into high level enemies that will destroy the party before they ever get a turn.
If you're guaranteed the first turn, then you can just run away. Running has a 100% success rate in most modern Exe-Create games (although not in some older ones like Asdivine Hearts).
As a general rule, if all the enemies are very close to the first-turn-guaranteed character on the battle timeline, and the rest of the party is far back on the battle timeline, then the enemies are way too strong to fight.

Magic that buffs the party or debuffs enemies is absolutely worthwhile and does not need to be leveled up. Leveling up these spells just reduces their mana cost, which is not important in the long run.
Magic that does damage has to be leveled up or it will be very weak. I recommend choosing a favorite attack spell (or ability) and focusing on it. Any Shop purchase that aids in leveling up spells/abilities is worth considering.
Leveling up healing spells isn't all that worthwhile because healing items aren't too hard to get.
I have never found hit-all weapons to be useful in any Kemco game and I don't know enough to answer your question about them.
